Dance & Drama

At Langley Hall Primary Academy, we believe that all children have the potential to be creative and expressive.

At Lower School (KS1), children are exposed to drama in their Literacy and IPC lessons, learning through re-enactment. From Year 3, children have one 30 minute drama lesson a week, taught by a specialist teacher, where they learn about characterisation and different drama elements through games, skits, improvisation and a range of activities. Through drama, children develop a range of skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives. Our curriculum provides a safe and supportive environment in which the children can explore and express their emotions, imagination and develop their self-esteem and confidence. As drama is a practical subject, the children at our school also learn to work as a team.

At Langley Hall Primary Academy, we designed our curriculum to be inclusive and accessible to all children, regardless of background or ability.

We aim to create a learning environment that is respectful and one which allows children to explore their own creativity. Children take part in school productions and performances throughout their school career, starting with Nativity plays and ending with the Years 3 and 4 production and Years 5 and 6 production. In these school productions, children are exposed to other theatre jobs, such as technician work, backstage work, costume and makeup. They learn discipline and responsibility and grow as individuals.
